This is a membership organization web site, and some pages are
restricted to members only. However, it provides a physician referral service that allows
both patients and professionals to search for asthma specialists nationwide.
National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

NHLBI is a division of the National Institutes of Health. This site
provides information for the professional interested in grants and research in pulmonary
disease that are sponsored by the federal government. It includes applications, proposals,
and announcements of grants and research programs. The site also provides information on
self-study CME programs approved by NHLBI.

The Global Initiative for Asthma is a program dedicated to the
increased awareness of asthma and asthma treatment worldwide. It is a collaborative effort
of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the NIH, and the World Health
Organization. This site provides guides for asthma management and other clinical
information on asthma.

This is the Web site of the American College of Allergy, Asthma
& Immunology. They maintain an "Information for Physicians" section that
provides information on asthma from an immunological viewpoint, including an "Expert
Care and Immunotherapy for Asthma" page and an "Immunotherapy Fact Sheet."
This section also includes a review of published studies on immunotherapy and asthma.
Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America

AAFA is an independent foundation funded by both corporate and
individual sponsors. The organization provides patient support but also awards grants for
research into asthma and allergies. AAFA works in conjunction with the NIH to supplement
NIH-provided support for ongoing research that is threatened by NIH budget limitations.
AAFA is currently running a small grant program designed to translate good health
practices into better behaviors in the asthma/allergy patient population.

This patient-oriented site offers an overview of asthma and
allergies. Its creator, the Foundation for Better Health, is an independent nonprofit
group whose editorial board is composed of physicians and researchers from the
asthma/allergy field. This site provides good, basic medical information for the patient
recently diagnosed with asthma.
National Jewish Medical and Research Center

This is the Web site of the only private medical and research center
in the United States devoted to respiratory, allergic, and immunologic diseases. The site
contains excellent information on the activities and services of the Center, but is not
well-linked to other resources. The site presents information on "Lung Line,"
the Centers nationwide telephone information service that provides educational
materials for patients and their families.
American Lung Association

This site reviews a multitude of lung diseases and conditions, and
also contains an excellent patient-oriented section on asthma. This latter section
includes the results of the recent ALA survey on asthma, and educational material for both
children and adults with asthma. The site also provides information on services provided
by ALA, such as their summer camp for asthmatic children.
American Association for Respiratory Care

This site requires a membership for access to some areas. The public
portion of the site provides information on continuing education, grants, AARC-sponsored
conferences and seminars, and resources for patients and professionals. Users also may
link to the latest issue of AARCs journal, Respiratory Care. AARC regularly updates
the site to provide news of interest to the respiratory professional.
