Dr. Smith graduated from Indiana University in Indianapolis.  He completed his residency in Salt Lake City at the University Of Utah Medical Center.

Dr. Smith is certified with the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Smith began practicing at South Peninsula Hospital in 1982 providing emergency room coverage on the summer weekends.  He and his wife, Susan McLane, moved here in 1987 to work throughout the year.  When not busy at the emergency room in Homer, Dr. Smith is caring for patients at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna.  He has also practiced at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau and Providence Hospital in Anchorage.
