Wellness & Education

This section was designed for you, the community. Forums, classes and links to resources are but a few of the ways that SPH does outreach to promote health and wellness to the community. Some of our regular offerings to the community include Living Well/Better Choices,Better Health, which is a chronic disease self management program. Safe Sitter is offered four times yearly, twice in the summer and once each holiday school break. Heartsaver, first aid, and basic life support are also offered to the public. Call 235-0259 for more information on the above programs. Diabetes self management is also offered on an ongoing basis. Click on the diabetes button below and go to the hospital diabetes page on the link menu for more information.

Most public forums are free and at the SPH Training Center on Pioneer Avenue. Staff can be found twice a month at the Safeway grocery store, distributing free health and wellness information on topics important to you. You'll also find them supporting local wellness activities, including walks, runs and other health promotion events.

South Peninsula Hospital is a partner in MAPP of the Southern Kenai Peninsula. As a member of the healthy lifestyles group, I took on the assignment of coming up with suggestions for "Healthy Lifestyle Choices at Community Events." The group provided a lot of suggestions and fine tuning and so MAPP is ready to launch our suggestion list. SPH has already commited to providing healthy food at it's forums and other educational offerings. We thought it would be great to share the ideas that have worked for us. The response from the community has been very positive!
